Larry Thompson & Associates places a lot of emphasis on investment manager due diligence. We are interested in the people at the firm who are responsible for the firm’s success and the firm’s professed investment process. We are most interested in evidence linking a firm’s investment process to performance, that is, evidence that past performance was the result of “skill” (repeatable) versus “luck” (random).

Larry Thompson & Associates, does not maintain a stable of investment managers and we welcome contact from investment managers wishing to arrange an introductory meeting. However, time does not permit us to meet with every investment management firm. We generally consider two factors before arranging meetings with managers who do not currently work for our clients.

Open or contemplated search – generally we are open to meeting with investment managers who are actively engaged in the asset class or investment strategy currently sought by one or more LT&A clients.

Limited supply phenomenon – we are often open to meeting with investment managers who work in areas where their strategies typically have limited asset thresholds – e.g., domestic small-cap value.

Before meeting with investment managers for the first time, we will ask you to complete our internal questionnaire. This questionnaire asks for information that will allow our research staff to develop a basic understanding of your firm and the investment strategy that you wish to discuss. Once the questionnaire is completed and returned to us, we will contact you to arrange the meeting. 

We have divided research responsibilities by asset class. Each research team member is responsible for investment manager research within their assigned asset class. Please contact the appropriate individual to initiate contact with Larry Thompson & Associates. Currently, research responsibilities have been divided as follows:
